AMES,  Iowa-  At the Western Edge Stores in Ames and Humboldt the owners of the company wanted to do something to help their business stand out.  So, Melanie Edge, along with her son Clay, and his wife Jessica have started designing their own lines of cowboy boots.

Western Edge has 3,000 pairs of boots in it’s store. They say by designing their own boots it has generated new sales. Western Edge works with Ferrini Boots of Dallas to come up with the design.

“We start designing the boots that nobody else would see in the nation,” said Melanie Edge.  “We have a gut feeling, then we do some designing,” said Edge. “We give it to the designers at Ferrini, they have a team that will make them for us.”

One thing the designers like to do is look for popular colors. “It could be purple or coral,” said Edge. “Right now it’s aztec or southwestern.

The original designs started when the company did shows in Las Vegas.  They would test sales of the designs there.  “We have a wonderful relationship with the owners of Ferrini,” said Edge. “We have designed for Corral Boots as well.”  She said other companies are considering having them design the boots.
