DES MOINES, Iowa -- After 18 months of construction, Flix Brewhouse has finally announced its opening date. The theater will open Wednesday, December 17 for a special showing of “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.”

According to the company’s Facebook page tickets will go on sale sometime this week.

Officials started brewing Luna Rosa Wit, which is similar to a Blue Moon. This will be the only in-house brewed beer available at the opening. However, the brewery will also have 38 “guest taps” which will feature regional beers and national brands.

This will be Iowa’s first ever cinema brewery. Officials plan on having six core beers available year-round and rotating seasonal and specialty brews.

This $14 million complex has eight screens some seating as little as 48 people and others big enough to seat more than 200 guests.

Earlier this fall the cinema held a job fair hiring 160 people. General Manager Garth Stackhouse says he’ll need to have 190 employees for everything to run smoothly. But he’s confident more people will apply once the public gets to see the cinema. “It’s a huge deal. It’s a huge deal for the neighborhood, the city, the mall; it’s going to bring a lot of traffic into the area. There’s a lot of excitement about this concept.”

This concept is basically the same as Billy Joe’s pitcher show was the only difference is Billy Joe’s didn’t have craft beer. They still served you at the tables and had regular restaurant style food.

I’d hate to the the AEs for this place at the Dumb Moines erroRegister, WHO and other local media outlets, trying to sell this place advertising. They get free coverage on TV, they get the front page for free. Who needs to advertise?
