CLIVE, Iowa – A couple paid off $4,500 worth of layaway balances for customers at the Clive Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores over the weekend.

"It was a couple in their mid 30s. They asked if they could pay off some layaways” said Clive Toys “R” Us General Manager Tim Beckman.

After the couple selected layaways to pay off Saturday afternoon, they then walked across the parking lot to Babies “R” Us, and did the same thing.

One of the recipients, Taylor Collins, 22, who is pregnant, had the remaining balance paid off on her crib.

"You hear about it all the time. It doesn't seem real until it happens to you," Collins said. "I thought my parents did it. I ran downstairs right away. I had just been talking to my mom 10-15 minutes ago about the crib. I couldn't believe it. I didn't seem real."

The managers at both Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us said that all the customers were very grateful. The employees named the couple the "Layaway Angels".

Taylor Collins’ mother, Cindy, was happy that some people would do such a generous thing. "It’s so nice to know there are good people. You hear about all the bad things happening and something good like that turns things around for you. It makes you believe again," Cindy said.

Collins was unsure that she was going to be able to pay the crib off before her due date, which happens to be Christmas.

She may never get the opportunity to meet the “Layaway Angels” but she knows what she would do it if she did.

“I would give them a huge hug, maybe the biggest they ever had … Let them know that I am so grateful,” she said.

Being on the receiving end of the gift was good for Collins, but she hopes one holiday season she can be on the giving end.

"I would love to, anyway I can. I hope that one day I can do the same thing like that for somebody," Collins said.
