MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — One person was killed after an officer-involved shooting in Marshalltown Wednesday morning.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. in the area of 2nd Avenue and Linn Street.

Authorities say two Marshalltown police officers were involved in a shooting with a suspect who was armed with a handgun.

“Officers were on routine patrol and encountered this suspect. At some point the suspect produced a handgun and shots were exchanged,” Marshalltown police Chief Michael Tupper told Channel 13.

The suspect was critically wounded and taken to an area hospital. He later died of his injuries, Chief Tupper said.

The officers were not injured and will be placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time.

Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation.

Seriously lets just take a second and be sad of the fact that someone is now dead, while also remembering that we need to offer our officers support with what they are going through ( God knows they must be going through alot)… and not automatically make this political and racially charged on either ends.
