DES MOINES, Iowa -- A car thief left a Des Moines mother of two without a way to get to work.

Kelsey Addison parked her 1998 maroon Blazer running outside of Bear Basics Daycare around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.  She was picking up her 10-month-old daughter and left the engine running because of the cold.  Addison says she was only gone for a few minutes.

"Five minutes tops. I was not in there very long," she said.

The thief didn't just get away with her SUV.  He stole her purse, her cell phone and her kids' car seats.  Addison just wants it all back, no questions asked.

"You must be a really sad person to steal a running car outside of a daycare center where you know that there's a parent going to pick up their child," said Addison.

This is the second time in as many weeks that a parent had their car stolen outside of the daycare.  Basic Bears posted a sign warning parents to lock their cars.

Des Moines Police say two cars were stolen outside of homes this morning. The owners left them running and unattended. Police are reminding drivers that getting into a cold car is better than having no car at all.
