OTTUWMA, Iowa -- Ottumwa police are searching for the city’s most wanted man. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for 24 – year – old Dustin William McDanel of Ottumwa for first degree murder. Police believe he shot and killed, 25–year–old Roger Wiseman Jr. early Sunday morning then fled the scene.

Police say Wiseman Jr. was found with several gunshot wounds lying on the sidewalk in the 400 block of North Market Street. He later died at the hospital. Authorities say the shooting was a result of an argument over alleged stolen property.

Police say McDanel is considered armed and dangerous and are unsure of his exact whereabouts.

“We have some leads that we are following up on at this point that we can't elaborate on but he’s probably somewhere in the Ottumwa area,” Lt. Jason Bell.

Theresa Dingman lives across the street from where the shooting occurred. She's says the at-large suspect is concerning.

“It’s unsettling, it’s really a scary thing and I don’t like to think that’s happening in my neighborhood.”

Authorities also say McDanel has a warrant out for an arrest after he escaped from a halfway house in October of 2014.
