Woman Shot in Chest at Marshalltown Motel

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — A woman  was found in a Marshalltown motel room with a gunshot wound to the chest early Sunday morning.

At 1:24 a.m., Marshalltown Police Department responded to a 911 call at the Flamingo Motel located on Iowa Ave West in Marshalltown.

When officers and emergency services personnel arrived they found a female victim inside the room suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim was transported initially to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center and from there to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The condition of the victim is not being released at this time.

A male subject found inside the room was taken into custody and brought to the Marshalltown Police Department for questioning.

After questioning by Marshalltown Police Detectives they arrested, Jean Carlos Martinez-Velazquez, 31-years-old of Marshalltown.

Martinez-Velazquez was charged with attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance and aggravated domestic assault.

The incident remains under investigation by the Marshalltown Police Department.

    For years people have known….remember when US News and World Reports put this city as one of the drug centers of the US. Marshalltown Iowa has totally gone to Hell, despite what the city fathers say and they are building a new hospital, with developments like these they need it. Nothing will bring reputable people to this town, look at the school ratings, shopping and restaurants available and you can see how it has gone NOWHERE for years except downhill. It is so sick
