Police: Man Abducted at Gunpoint, Told to Find Narcotics

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating a possible abduction on the city’s east side.

At about 5:30 p.m. Monday, police say a man was taken against his will.

The victim told officers he was sitting in his car on E. 17th and Des Moines Street when a man approached him with a gun and demanded he get in the suspect’s truck.

The victim got in the vehicle and was told to help the suspect find various types of narcotics.

After several stops, the suspect drove to the Walgreens on Douglas Avenue near Beaver Avenue where the victim was able to call police.

As an officer pulled up, the victim ran to him stating, “In the black Super Duty, he has a gun.”

Mark Hanrahan, 45,  was arrested and a gun was found in the vehicle. No one was hurt.

Hanrahan has been charged with kidnapping and is being held in the Polk County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
