DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines city council gave its stamp of approval to the next police chief Monday night.

Last week the city manager selected Major Dana Wingert to fill the position left open by Chief Judy Bradshaw.

Wingert was one of four finalists for the position and is no stranger to the department. He’s been working there since 1991.

Wingert will officially begin his duties as Chief of Police Tuesday.
