DES MOINES, Iowa — The federal government is looking to a Des Moines company to help it become more efficient.

The U.S. Treasury Department has tapped Dwolla to process its online transactions.

The department says Dwolla will be used on its pay.gov site. That’s the governments secure site for web based payment.

The treasury is moving away from paper processing to more efficient and secure electronic transactions.

Last year, the treasury collected nearly $4 trillion in revenue.  Nearly 98 percent of it was paid electronically.
