Freezing Rain, Snow Could Make for Slippery Roads Tuesday

12K-RPM-Clouds-and-PrecipDES MOINES, Iowa – WHO-HD Meteorologists are tracking a powerful storm system that could bring rain, freezing rain and snow to Central Iowa after 10:00 p.m. Monday.

Meteorologist Jennifer McDermed said timing will be very important as the temperatures will start to fall rapidly through the day. Freezing rain late Monday night which will then change to rain and freezing rain by 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. The best chance for a light glazing of ice on the roads will be north of Ames.

The snow will be the heaviest along the Iowa/Minnesota border. With 1″ to 2″ possible and blowing snow reducing visibility.

The rest of next week is expected to be dry with a warming trend into next weekend.
