Earlham Wins

DES MOINES, Iowa – The  Earlham Cardinals advanced in Boys High School Basketball with a win over Belle Plaine 63-50.  Earlham was led by Canyon Hopkins, with 16 points.  Andy Algreen and Dan Schmidt each had 15 points.  Earlham will play Gladbrook-Reinbeck in class 1A action on Thursday morning.

The Cardinals were tied with Belle Plaine at 11, at the end of the first quarter. Head Coach Kevin Williamson said the team counted on Dan Schmidt to come off the bench. “We moved the ball better and got him open looks,” said Williamson.  “It was huge for him coming off the bench because we needed it at that point.”

The first trip to state was not lost on Junior Canyon Hopkins. “It feels great because no Earlham team has done this before,” said Hopkins.  “Even being the first team here, we’re not satisfied, we’re hungry, we want more.”
