Woodward Academy stayed with #1 Aplington-Parkersburg for much of the 2-A state quarterfinal Monday night, but the Falcons proved too much, winning 82-69.
Woodward Academy is a reform school for wayward teen boys who need re-direction. The Knights have received raves for their sportsmanship and all out play. Woodward is the first academy to reach state.
Woodward has a new roster every year, and since players come from all over Iowa and many other states, there wasn't much of a crowd expected beyond students and teachers, but Iowans being Iowans heard this, and rallied a big crowd for the game at state.
It was a season the boys of Woodward will never forget.
