farmlandDES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey announced Thursday a photo project aimed at showcasing Iowans’ connection with agriculture.

Secretary Northey is asking Iowans to photograph their connection with Iowa agriculture on National Agriculture Day, celebrated on Wednesday, March 18. “A Day in Iowa Agriculture” will serve as a photo project showcased in the form of an online album published on the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s website later this month. The photos will also be considered for display in the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship at the Wallace building in Des Moines.

Any photo taken within the 24-hour period of National Agriculture Day can be submitted via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtag #DayinIAag. With over 88,000 family farms in the state, and 420,000 Iowans employed in agriculture, Secretary Northey says one in five Iowans have some connection with the industry.

“Iowa is a beautiful place and spring is an exciting time in agriculture,” he said. “The Day in Iowa Agriculture photo project is intended to document this special day of the year and record the activities of not only one farm life in our state, but many, diverse aspects of Iowa agriculture.”
