DES MOINES, Iowa – Despite years of saying he doesn’t use a smartphone or send email, court documents show that Governor Terry Branstad has access to both.
In a court deposition released last week, Governor Branstad acknowledged he has a Blackberry smartphone and receives email on it.
“Gov. Branstad does not maintain an email account. The governor receives news articles via a staff-maintained email account through his personal BlackBerry device via the device’s ‘Messages’ app,” Governor Branstad’s communications director, Jimmy Centers, told Channel 13 News. “The app, which is simply the phone’s inbox, does allow users to send messages, but the governor does not send email whether it is personal, political, state or some other form.”
The governor’s office released the emails to Channel 13 News on Wednesday.
