DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- Opening day for Major League Baseball is less than a week away but a prominent Iowa field couldn't wait that long.

The Field of Dreams had its first game of the season on Wednesday and it featured a special guest, Robert Smith, throwing out the first pitch.

Smith is a blind man, but he has an important vision: To throw out the first pitch at every minor and major league ballpark in America.

It’s a way for Smith to promote “The Little Green Apples Project,” which is an effort to do one million acts of kindness.

“We're looking to take this to the Major Leagues," Smith said. “I'm looking to get into Dodger Stadium, like I said San Francisco, Chicago Cubs.”

Smith also says he has already lined up 20 minor league ball parks to throw out the first pitch at.
