HANCOCK COUNTY, Iowa — Dry weather may have played a role when a hundred hay bales caught fire at Monte Branstad’s farm, who is the brother of Gov. Terry Branstad.

Firefighters were called to Branstad Farms just south of Forest City on Wednesday.

Several hundred round bales of hay were on fire. Crews let the fires burn themselves out since they didn’t pose any threat.

Officials are still looking into the cause but believe that the wind may have restarted a trash fire from a few days earlier.

Gov. Branstad does not have an ownership or stake in the farm, according to the IGOV Communications Department.
