MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa -- The town of Mitchellville is in need of a new mayor.

Jeremy Filbert announced his resignation at Monday night’s City Council meeting. The resignation goes into effect on April 30.

Officials said Filbert is leaving Iowa to take a job in Kansas City.

The city's chief financial officer said the registration isn't a big surprise, but added that an investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation into Filbert last summer played no role in his resignation.

That investigation found no inappropriate conduct.

Councilman Steve Zook will step in as the interim mayor.
