NEPAL -- A New Albin man who traveled to Nepal to climb Mount Everest has contacted his family, letting them know he is safe following an earthquake that devastated the region.

Cole Donahue’s family shared a Facebook post from Cole early Monday morning.

Donahue’s family wasn't sure of his exact plans so they weren't certain whether he had reached the base camp before the earthquake.

Donahue plans to be back in the U.S. by May 2.
