Iowa Father Charged with Murdering Infant Son

BURLINGTON, Iowa — A Burlington father has been charged with murder in the death of his infant son.

Twenty-three-year-old Randall Payne was arrested Wednesday. He is accused of killing his 22-day-old infant son, Carter Payne. The baby died November 9th, 2014 at his father’s home.

The charge is the result of an investigation by the Des Moines Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Des Moines County Attorney’s Office.

Payne is also charged with felony child endangerment and multiple acts of child endangerment.

He is being held in the Des Moines County Correctional Facility on a bond of $1 million.
