Four People Escape Serious Injury after Boat Goes Over Spillway

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Four people were able to escape serious injury after a boating incident occured on Saturday evening.

A fiberglass runabout boat was being operated by 41-year-old Kevin Mundt of Orion, Illinois when it went over the spillway at Lock and Dam 16 around 11 p.m. It was traveling at a high rate of speed and landed in about two feet of water, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Mundt and 20-year-old Jenna Bundy of Orion, Illinois were transported to Trinity Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

31-year-old Daniel Dick and 33-year-old Amanda Dick, both of LeClaire, were the other passengers in the boat. The two of them were ejected from the boat, but were ultimately not injured.

None of the boat’s four occupants were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident, but later did put them on before swimming to shore.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
