SPRINGFIELD, MO –  The Iowa baseball team made their first appearance in the NCAA tournament in 25 years on Friday.

The Hawkeyes manufactured three runs, and got a great pitching performance on the mound from Grimes native Tyler Peyton to beat Oregon 3-1.  Peyton went 7 1/3 innings, giving up just one run while striking out five.

The only other NCAA win for the Hawkeyes came in 1972.

All three of Iowa’s runs came on infield singles, and a fielders choice.

The win give the Hawks 40 W’s on the season.

Iowa plays again Saturday night against either Missouri State or Canisius.
