FONDA, Iowa --This small community in southwestern Pocahontas County is ready for RAGBRAI.

Fonda's Police Chief Alex Leu said the town was basically ready a month ago.

As Police Chief Leu, he's not only concerned about routing traffic in and out of Fonda, he also knows what the various civic clubs and businesses are planning for the day.

The Fonda Fire and Amubulance will be staging a booth, as will the Knights of Columbus, and the Town and Country Boosters. The last group is the one which stages the Fonda Labor Day Celebration each year.

Fonda's theme for RAGBRAI: The Fonda Oasis

"Our logic behind the 'Fonda Oasis' is a simple one," Leu said. "You'll be going through a sea of corn, then you'll come to this little tree place, where there's going to be vendors and you'll get to ride through the scenic Main Street."

Being the Police Chief Leu is also concerned about traffic flow during RAGBRAI. He said Pocahontas County Secondary Road Department will help block off some roads.

"The nice thing about the layout of Fonda is that we have an entrance for our locals, but we can provide a safe route for locals down Main Street and over to Queen Street.

The Chief said the main thing the community is proud of is $80,000 in grants to help improve the downtown and the parks in Fonda.

"Fonda is a tight-knit, glad to serve town," Leu said. "We're looking forward to having everybody here."
