Five Injured after Jet Ski Collides with Dock in Bettendorf

BETTENDORF, Iowa – Five people were injured on Sunday after a jet ski hit a dock on the Mississippi River.

44-year-old Daniel Nelson of Davenport was operating a jet ski before it collided with a dock at Leach Park on Sunday. The collision injured an adult and four children at approximately 3:15 p.m. Nelson was not injured during the incident, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Three of the people suffered head injuries, one sustained a chest injury, and the other suffered back and hip injuries. At least three of them were thrown into the water after the jet ski hit the dock, but they were able to get back to shore safely.

All five of the injured people were taken to Genesis East hospital and none of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The incident is still under investigation by the Iowa DNR.
