DES MOINES, Iowa — Area rivers are on the rise after Thursday’s heavy rain.

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for two rivers in the metro.

The Raccoon River at Fleur Drive in Des Moines is forecast to reach flood stage, which is 12 feet, early Sunday morning. That means George Flagg Parkway could close.

The Des Moines River is also expected to reach flood stage, 24 feet, in the coming days.

The river level forecast is based on current rainfall and does not take into account any future precipitation, so timing and severity of the flooding could change.
