GARWIN, Iowa — The former city clerk of Garwin is facing charges after being accused of stealing from the city.
Fifty-one-year-old Anna Leytham faces five counts of first degree theft and one count of ongoing criminal conduct.
In July of last year, the Department of Criminal Investigation was asked to look into possible embezzlement.
The investigation identified more than $500,000 of improper disbursements. That includes around 100 checks issued to Leytham and another 200 payments traced to her credit card statements.
Leytham resigned as city clerk earlier this year.
