DES  MOINES, Iowa – To better measure the loss of ash trees and the environmental impact of the Emerald Ash Borer, the City of Des Moines is asking residents to complete a short, online survey regarding how many ash trees are located on private property.

The three-question survey asks residents to locate themselves on the city map via GPS, and to list the number of ash trees on their yard. There’s also a link to help unsure residents figure out if they do have an ash tree on their property.

In addition, residents who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 new trees from the Forestry Division of Public Works. The city says the information gathered from the survey will help it map out potential urban tree canopy losses over the next five years.

The survey can be found here.
