Des Moines Police Investigating Shooting Near MLK Jr. Park

DES MOINES, Iowa – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred near MLK Jr. Park on Saturday evening.

Authorities responded to a call of shots fired around 7 p.m. and found one person who’d been shot in the arm near the park.

"Yes, (we) found several shell casings on the ground," Lt. Joseph Leo of the Des Moines Police Department said. "Some broken glass and then just several people in the park. All of which were celebrating the Fourth of July.”

Crews took the victim to the hospital and officials say his wound is not life-threatening.

Police haven't announced any arrests at this time.
