DES MOINES, Iowa – A Cinderella cast member is playing out a very similar story as the one he’s playing on stage.

This week, Cinderella is playing on stage at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines.

Just a few years ago, Antoine L. Smith was in the crowd at the Civic Center and now he’s on stage.  Smith plays the role of Lord Pinkleton -- the Prince's right hand man.

Smith was born in Indiana but raised in Sioux City. His passion has all been to be an actor, but his mother told him to have a backup plan.

That plan brought him to the metro a few years ago and the Culinary Arts Program at DMACC.

"It's surreal, when I was here going to culinary school it just wasn’t registering in my mind that I would be at the level that I am now," Smith said. "Of course I wanted to be there, but everybody wants to be there and you dream about it. To have it actually come to fruition was amazing, is amazing."

Smith also spent two years as the man inside the Big Bird suit at Sesame Street live performances.
