SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Two RAGBRAI riders were taken to the hospital after police say they were hit by a drunk driver Sunday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of North Hamilton Boulevard and West 7th Street in Sioux City around 6:20 a.m. Authorities say 36-year-old Charryse Chavez ignored a police officer who was directing traffic and slammed into Bruce Blair and Barbara Blair, both of Hudson, Wisconsin.

The Blair couple was riding a tandem bike when they were hit by the vehicle. Police say their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Chavez is charged with operating while intoxicated and failing to obey a police officer, according to the Sioux City Police Department.
