CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa campus went on lock down Tuesday morning due to a suspicious package.

Shortly after 9 a.m., a robot determined that the bag was not a threat. Officials say it was filled with audio and visual equipment.

Campus police initially found the bag around 3 a.m. near the Mauker Union. Authorities called in a bomb squad to investigate.

"When the UNI PD discovered it at 3 a.m. and hadn't seen it prior, I think that, andĀ given the central location it was located on campus, it was just better to be safe than sorry," said Scott Ketelsen, Director of University Relations.
