DES MOINES, Iowa -- For the third time in the last four years, the Lincoln Railsplitters start the football season with a new head coach.

Derek Summy, a Lincoln High School alum, will try to resurrect the Lincoln program starting this upcoming season. Summy was an assistant coach assisted at Des Moines East the past five seasons.

The Railsplitters made the playoffs last year, but finished just 3-7 after losing in the first round.

Summy gas a lot of work ahead of him, but he is determined to turn Lincoln in to a winning program.

“You know I played out here, went to high school here, so I’m excited to be back,” Summy said. “Again I had a lot of support on the south side and I know theres a lot of people excited for Lincoln football to get back where it needs to be.”

Lincoln opens the season at home against Des Moines North on Aug. 28.
