DES MOINES, Iowa – The North High School Polar Bears installed a new scoreboard at the stadium's north end zone Tuesday.

The installation started early Tuesday morning and was completed this afternoon. The scoreboard is being paid for with a combination of money from the athletic fund and Coca-Cola.

The school is paying about $10,000 and Coke is playing $15,000.

Officials say the old scoreboard was 15-years-old and outdated. The school’s head coach hopes this and other facility improvements breathe new life into the program.

“Let's get the environment so when our young men come here you see nice scoreboards,” Sean Quinlan said. “We really want to enhance it. So on game days on Friday the kids believe they are part of something special.”

Quinlan says the team is being extra cautious this week while practicing in the heat. Workouts are being held early, a he is pushing hydration, especially before and after practice.
