Reports of Weed and Insect Issues in Corn

Most of last week was good for field work according to the Iowa Crop Progress report. Most of that time was used for cutting hay and fungicide and insecticide applications.

There were scattered reports of weed and insect issues in soybeans and fungus in corn fields. Seed corn detasseling is nearly done across the state.

Topsoil moisture levels are 91 percent adequate to surplus.

Corn is looking good, 97 percent of the crop is at the silking stage or beyond with 51 percent reaching the dough stage, up 21 percent from last week and four days ahead of the five year average.

Corn crop condition is rated 83 percent good to excellent.

Soybean blooming or beyond is at 92 percent, lagging behind last year, and 73 percent were setting pods, 16 percent more than last week.

Soybean crop condition is rated 79 percent good to excellent.
