DES MOINES, Iowa – A new football stadium for the Des Moines Christian Lions is in the works and should be done by the end of the season.
The Lions have never had their own field, and have always had to play their home games at Johnston.
However, the bleachers are currently going up and turf field is going down for their new stadium. It won't be ready until late in the season, but the Lions hope for two true home games this year.
“I never thought I would get to play on it,” senior running back Jake Lowe said. “There are always rumors about it and stuff, but I never thought it was actually going to be a reality.”
Des Moines Christian head coach Dennis Gonnerman says the program has a lot to gain with the new stadium being constructed.
“It builds a sense of community, that’s what we are going to gain with this is a sense of community because our kids come from all over the metro area,” Gonnerman said. “It’s really hard to build that (community) when you get kids from that, but complexes like this bring them all together."
