PLEASANT HILL, Iowa – Southeast Polk High School is coming off a 6-5 season, and the metro sports power wants to prove they are better than where they finished last year.

Longtime Rams assistant coach Brad Zelenovich spent the past two seasons leading Ankeny, but now he's back with the Rams again. This time, he’s in charge and ready to take this team to the next level.

“Obviously it sounds cliché but we are trying to get better every day,” Zelenovich said. “We’re at practice number 12 with our camp, and we are getting better and seeing progress, but we have a long way to go.”

Zelenovich’s new players are confident heading into the season and feel the new coaching change has been a positive one

“I feel like it’s going to be a great season, just a whole different change from last year with the new coach," Hunter Salyers said. "Our teammates have come out with a lot more energy and a lot more excitement because we are all seniors now. It’s our show so we are going to come out and definitely hit it hard.”

Southeast Polk hosts Johnston next Friday in their season opener.
