DES MOINES, Iowa -- It's not the homecoming a new mother expected as she prepares to bring her newborn home from the hospital.
ToiAne Johnson said a burglar stole several of her children's toys and belongings including baby clothes, a baby bassinet and car seat on Tuesday, the day she was admitted into the hospital.
"Here I am about to bring something good into the world and something bad has happened to me. How can this happen?," she said.
According to a Des Moines police report, the burglar broke into Johnson's duplex through the window and stole numerous items including a flatscreen TV, DVD player, bicycle and a queen sized bed.
Johnson said she was staying at a relatives house at the time of the break - in and will not be returning to her home due to safety reasons.
Investigators found a fingerprint of the accused burglar on a window sill but say it could be weeks before they are able to make an identification. Regardless if the evidence leads to an arrest, Johnson said she has forgiven the suspect.
"Really the only way I can push forward is with God, continue my faith in God and know that everything is gonna be alright."
Johnson delivered a healthy baby boy on Wednesday evening.
