BOONE COUNTY, Iowa — A member of the local cycling community that was killed by a drunk driver earlier this month is being honored by a memorial ride Wednesday.
On August 16th, Wade Franck was hit by a car while riding in the Urban Assault Ride in Des Moines. Franck died two days later from his injuries.
Police say Jonathan Leyva was drunk when he hit Franck with his car. He is charged with homicide by OWI and other traffic violations.
Kyle’s Bikes in Ankeny, where Franck worked, is holding another ride in memory of him Wednesday night. Organizers are asking everyone to arrive at the High Trestle Trail Bridge at 7:45 p.m.
They say nearly 500 people have committed to the ride but anyone is welcome.
