Charges Filed in Newton Dog Shooting

NEWTON, Iowa–Two people are facing charges after a dog was shot and killed in Newton.

Police say Ron Kollmann, 76, shot and killed a bulldog named Bambino on August 20th.

Kollmann told police the dog ran at him in an aggressive manner and  he tried to fire a warning shot but accidentally hit the dog.

Police charged Kollmann with discharge of a weapon inside city limits.

Sidney Zellmer, 26, was watching the dog at the time of the shooting.

Police cited Zellmer for two counts of dog at large and two counts of having unlicensed dogs.
