DALLAS CENTER, Iowa – In our second Football Friday Big Game of the year, the No. 1-ranked Pella Dutch will be on the road to face the No. 4-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs in a critical Class 3A matchup.
Both teams are coming off easy victories in Week 1, with Pella beating Washington 42-24, and Dallas Center-Grimes cruising past Carlisle 39-6.
In November of 2014, the Dutch were crowned the kings of 3A football, which was the first state football title in Pella history.
"We're not trying to use the word again, repeat, or any of those words," Pella head coach Jay McKinstrey said. "It's just our goal every year to try and win the state championship. We were fortunate last year to be able to do it and I think it's one of our goals again this year."
The Mustangs look for revenge against the reigning champions as they fell to the Dutch last season by a score of 45-14.
Dallas Center-Grimes head coach Scott Heitland said his team is well-aware of Pella's success over the year.
"Pella is an outstanding football team, and coach Jay McKinstrey does a wonderful job, him and his staff," Heitland said. We have a ton of respect for them and what they’ve done in not only last year but the years before that. It’s a great opportunity, it’s a non-district game, and I think both teams have a lot to gain playing in a game like this."
