Ames Police Investigate Car Fires On Labor Day

AMES, Iowa- The Ames Fire Department was called to a car fire in the 100 block of North Maple early Monday morning.

“When the officers got there, the first car they found was Lincolnway and North Maple it was fully engulfed,” said Commander Jason Tuttle, of the Ames Police Department.  “As other officers were arriving, they discovered there were two additional vehicles were smoking.”

Police also found several cars in that area had been burglarized, and one car was stolen from the 1100 block of North 3rd street.  It was later recovered in the 300 block of North Riverside Drive.

“We’re still compiling the value of some of the items that were from some of the vehicles that were burglarized as well,” said Tuttle.

Witnesses said they saw some people running down the alley as one car was on fire.
