POLK COUNTY, Iowa — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of an Ankeny man who apparently drowned in Saylorville Lake Sunday night.

Officials say 34-year-old Geoffrey Gardiner slipped off of a dock at the Saylorville Marina Sunday night. Bystanders attempted to rescue Gardiner but were unable to locate him.

Emergency crews tried to find him but had to call off the search because of lightning in the area. Gardiner’s body was recovered Monday morning just after 9:00.
