AMES, Iowa--Four of the 15 Republican contenders will be turning in their suits for a tailgate this weekend.

Donald Trump, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio and Rand Paul will all be making appearances at the GOP tailgate before the Iowa vs. Iowa State match-up.

Craig Robinson with the www.TheIowaRepublican.com says combining sporting events and politics is something more candidates are doing in an attempt to up their ground games.

It's also a good way for Iowans to see the candidates in a more relaxed setting.

“This is an easy way to get a feel of that presidential campaign at an event without having to go and listen to seven political speeches all at once. I think it`s a decent balance so long as they`re not trying to give speeches in the middle of a tailgating parking lot.”

The GOP tailgate is being held in Lot S-7 in the stadium parking lot just East of the stadium.

The event will run from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
