DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was able to get out of their home safely Friday morning after someone driving by saw flames coming from the back deck.

It happened at 3500 Skyline Drive in Des Moines at 7:15 a.m.

The Fire Chief says someone was driving along the road and noticed a grill on fire on the home’s back deck. They stopped and knocked on the door to alert the residents.

One person was inside the home at the time and was able to get out safely.

The fire traveled inside the home to the upper floor. It caused about $30,000 in damage to the home.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
