DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines police are investigating after two bodies were found early Friday morning just a few blocks east of the Drake neighborhood.

Police say the first body was found at 1:48 a.m. in the middle of 22nd Street between Carpenter and Forest. Another body was discovered shortly after in the backyard of a home in the 1300 block of 22nd Street.

Both bodies are male and police say they have not identified the victims yet. Police have not said how the two people died but did say there were obvious signs of trauma to the bodies. They are treating the deaths as homicides.

A neighbor told Channel 13 he heard several gunshots and that isn't unusual for the neighborhood.

Detectives are on the scene but say it’s difficult to look for evidence because it is still dark. They hope to find more once the sun comes up. They have blocked off the are of 22nd & Carpenter to 22nd & Forest so they can conduct their investigation.

Police say they don't believe there is any danger to the public.

The homicides are the 9th and 10th of 2015 in Des Moines.
