NEWTON, Iowa -- Newton Police located and picked up 16 year-old Adam Joe Halterman Jr. (also known as A.J.) on Tuesday night. Halterman was wanted in connection with several burglaries in the area, and also on a Juvenile pickup order.
17 year-old Daniel Wallace says he and his friend A.J. were just hanging out one day when the idea came to them to break into people's homes and steal what was inside. "I don`t know, it was just a stupid decision we thought of," said Wallace. "PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, about I want to say $211, three guitars, an amp and two watches," said Wallace when recalling the items he says he and A.J. took. Wallace says the plan was to sell the items to people on Facebook. "There was a few people interested, but they (the items) got returned before the people bought them," said Wallace.
Wallace says he turned himself in once he learned police were looking for him. On Tuesday, September 22, Wallace was charged with three counts of burglary 3rd. It was on September 15 and 16 that the Newton Police Department received a report of three daytime residential burglaries on the west side of town.
"Doug, my probation officer is giving me one more chance, said Wallace. When asked what his probation officer told him, Wallace said, "that I`m pretty much lucky right now, because any other JCO would probably lock them up." Wallace says he needs to start hanging out with a different crowd, and that the future will be different. "I`ll probably think before I do and make the right decisions," said Wallace.
