DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines woman is pleading with the thieves who broke into her home last week to return two items near and dear to her heart.

“It`s heartless what they did. I don`t care about the material things I really don`t, I’ll replace them slowly, but I need my books, I need them,” says Carmen Dueling Villa.

Carmen says her home, in the 900 block of E. 22nd Street,  was burglarized while she was out enjoying a Christian concert with her husband Michael on Thursday.

The couple came home to find their home ransacked.

Several electronics, money and tools were taken but it's Carmen's journal and her son's baby book that she wants back.

She's been writing poems in her journal, a gift from her late mother, for 30 years and says it's helped her get through some tough times.

“Don’t burn it, don’t throw it away. It means more to me than anybody can imagine, I’ve worked hard on that, I really have and I just want my book back.”

The couple is offering a reward of $190 for the return of their personal items, no questions asked.

A police report was filed but so far authorities have no suspects in the case.
