MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- A new memorial to World War II Veterans was installed Monday on the grounds of the Iowa Veterans Home.

The memorial came about after a project by some members of the Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company Leadership Class.  They came to Marshalltown to interview some World War II Veterans.

During the course of the interview, one of the vets mentioned that the Iowa Veterans Home had a Viet Nam Veterans Memorial, a Korea Veterans Memorial, but no WWII memorial. The the group began an effort to work with other donors to raise the money.

The WWII Vets worked on the images they wanted for the black stone monument, including some from the home front.

IVH Commandant Jodi Tymeson said the Iowa Veterans Home does not erect monuments, they are all done by outside groups.
