DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating after an 11-year-old boy was injured when he was hit by a truck Thursday morning and the driver didn’t stop to help.

The father of the child told Channel 13 his son was walking to school shortly before 7:00 a.m. when the accident happened. The boy was crossing the street near 2810 Easton Blvd. when he was clipped by a truck and fell to the ground. The truck did not stop.

Despite an injury to his elbow, which the father says was very swollen, the child was able to get up and walk home. The child was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.

The boy didn’t get a description of the vehicle that struck him but witnesses say it was a blue pickup truck. It was last seen heading eastbound on Easton Blvd.

If you have any information about the accident you’re asked to contact the Des Moines Police Department at 283-4824.
