One Dead in Cedar Rapids Officer-Involved Shooting

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa —  One person was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Cedar Rapids Tuesday night.

The shooting stemmed from a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Ravenwood around 10:30 p.m. Three of the car’s occupants were suspected of drug activity the department had been investigating.

One of the suspects, a man in his early 20s,  ran from the vehicle and shot at officers and a police K9 as they tried to catch him. Officers returned fire, hitting and killing the man. His name has not been released yet.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will be looking into the incident as is policy following an officer-involved shooting.
